5 Days Marangu Route Itinerary (Budget Group)

Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

Register at Marangu Gate and begin the trek through lush rainforest. The trail is rich in wildlife and birdlife before reaching Mandara Hut for overnight.

Hiking: 4–5 hours | Distance: ~8 km

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

Hike through moorland with scenic views of Mawenzi Peak. Giant lobelias and open landscapes lead to Horombo Hut.

Hiking: 5–6 hours | Distance: ~12 km

Day 3: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

A steady climb across alpine desert terrain. The air becomes thinner as you reach Kibo Hut, the final base before summit night.

Hiking: 6–8 hours | Distance: ~10 km

Day 4: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Begin the midnight ascent to the summit via Gilman’s Point. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend carefully to Horombo Hut.

Day 5: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate
