Detailed 6‑Day Machame route Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival & Machame Gate → Machame Camp

Transfer from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate for permit processing and final gear checks.

Hike into the dense rainforest, alive with birdcalls, moss-draped trees, and wildlife.

Arrive at Machame Camp (approx. 2,800 m) by afternoon. Dinner served in the dining tent; get to know your fellow climbers and guides.

Day 2 – Machame Camp → Shira Plateau

Climb out of the forest into high moorland terrain, marked by heathers and wildflowers.

Traverse ancient lava flows and ridgelines until you reach the Shira Plateau, one of the highest old volcanic surfaces.

Set up camp with sweeping views across the plateau — perfect for sunset and star‑gazing.

Day 3 – Shira Plateau → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

Ascend to Lava Tower (approx. 4,630 m), where you’ll spend time acclimatizing.

Take lunch with views of rugged volcanic cliffs.

After the high point, descend into the Barranco Valley, filled with giant groundsels and surreal cliffs.

Camp in Barranco Valley, enjoying an early evening and preparing for the wall climb tomorrow.

Day 4 – Barranco Wall → Karanga Valley → Barafu Camp

Tackle the Barranco Wall, a thrilling but non-technical rock scramble overseen by your guides.

After the wall, continue along ridgelines into Karanga Valley, followed by a final ascent to Barafu Camp (~4,640 m), your summit camp.

Enjoy a hearty dinner, brief rest, and a thorough summit‑night briefing.

Day 5 – Summit Day: Barafu → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

Begin the summit push around midnight, moving slowly but steadily.

Reach Stella Point as the sky begins to glow, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) for sunrise — a deeply emotional and triumphant moment.

Pause for celebratory photos, then descend first to Barafu to rest and eat, and then continue down to Mweka Camp (approx. 3,100 m) for the night.

Day 6 – Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Return Transfer

Trek through the lush rainforest, enjoying filtered morning light, birds, and cooling air.

Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll be awarded your summit certificates.
